American singer, songwriter, voice artist, music producer and teacher based in Mallorca, with more than twenty-five years of professional experience in live performance, studio recording, creative voice work and music production. Her work brings together voice, overtone singing, sacred and world music, improvisation, sound, meditation and presence.

Her repertoire spans more than twenty-five languages and a wide range of vocal traditions and contemporary styles, from soul, blues and Gospel to overtone singing, mantra, freeform improvisation and ethnic vocal techniques. She has performed throughout Europe, the United States, Canada and Africa — in concert halls, festivals, cathedrals, monasteries, caves and other acoustically and culturally significant spaces.

Her artistic practice has developed alongside many years of study in sound, meditation, consciousness, breathwork, Kundalini Yoga and complementary healing modalities. Those explorations inform the way she approaches voice and music: as artistic expression, as embodied practice, and as an invitation to listen, breathe and become present.

Studio vocalist 1999 – present

Recording artist for her own projects, and featured vocalist, soloist, harmony vocalist and spoken voice artist for other artists and productions.

She holds an extensive catalogue of original, unreleased music.

Voice teaching and creative workshops

Voice teacher and workshop facilitator 2003 – present

Teaching is an important part of Cumie's artistic practice. She creates workshops and masterclasses exploring the voice as an instrument of expression, creativity, connection and presence. Workshops are offered in English and Spanish, and often combine voice, movement, breath and percussion.

Sound, healing and consciousness

Cumie's musical work has evolved alongside more than two decades of study in sound, meditation, consciousness and embodied practice. Those studies enter her artistic work through sound baths, vocal meditation, overtone singing, breathwork, sacred song, guided listening and participatory vocal experiences.

Selected training and study

Bodywork training has included relaxation and Swedish massage, Indian head massage, acupressure, hot stone massage and sound-healing applications. These studies inform her understanding of embodied listening and presence; they are not offered professionally.

Further study with Lori Cotler, Akim Funk Buddha, Imre Peemot, Moisés Manuel Pérez Miguélez, Sheela Gathright, Enrique Martínez, Teresa Schoendorf, Helen Rowson, Thomas Clements, Neus Martorell Dols and Teresa Mateo, among others. Formal and informal vocal study has been continuous since childhood, beginning with choir singing at about eight years old.

Percussion and movement

Training in darbuka, djembe and frame drum, with Glen Velez, Raquy Danziger, Mohamed El Sayed, Carmine T. Guida, Jim Beckwith and Jaume Compte, among others. Movement studies include belly dance, American Tribal Style and tribal fusion, West African dance and ballet. She has also performed as a dancer in interdisciplinary music, movement and natural-health events, including the One World Music Festival, GoddessDance NYC, Body Temple NYC and Burning Man Decompression New York.
